Starting BJP’s poll campaign in Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Congress government failed to fulfil the promises made to the people of Assam. He said that the Modi government was determined to bring about the all round development of the state.

Addressing a rally in poll bound Assam’s Kokrajhar, the Prime Minister said that it has become a fashion of not giving account of one’s work and blame others. He said the Congress party has been in power in Assam for 15 years and the former Prime Minister was from the state and governed the nation for 10 years, despite it we see that there is at no development in Assam. They could not do anything in the last 15 years and expected the Modi government to do everything in 15 months, he added.

The Prime Minister who reached Kokrajhar an hour late as his flight got delayed due to bad weather, said that although his address at the rally was late, but the people will not have to wait for development in the state. Mr Modi spoke about fast-tracking the development in the region and said that his three-point programme for Assam is – development, development and development. The Prime Minister announced that tribal status would be granted to the people of Karbi community living in the plains of Assam and Bodo people living in the hill areas. He asserted that the process has already started.

Stressing importance on infrastructure development, Mr Modi said many areas in Assam still did not have electricity and added that he will bring electricity to 18000 villages in 1000 days.

Addressing a youth rally in Guwahati, the Prime Minister said that India's development must be all round and not restricted to only one part. He said that Assam is a land blessed with abundant natural resources and the plentiful raw materials in the state will ensure maximum development to the state.

The Prime Minister raised many questions as to why the completion of conversion exercise of railway gauge took so much time and why the youths of the state were deprived of job opportunities during the regime of the Congress.

Mr Modi said that a second green revolution will happen in Assam. The farmers of the state are hardworking and with the help of technology progress could be achieved, he said.

Later in the evening the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of campus for IIIT Guwahati and addressed the students of IIT, NIT and central universities of North-East.

The Prime Minister also twitted, "My speech on harnessing the demographic dividend & making India a hub of innovation & manufacturing."


Addressing the students of IIT Guwahati and others, Mr Modi said that the 21st century is the century of knowledge. He said India has provided leadership whenever knowledge has been the driving force of the world. India has young dreams full of energy. Global agencies say India is the fastest growing economy in the world. Mr Modi also highlighted the government’s efforts towards skill development- Startup India.
